A haunting story.
Yes I know I mentioned that I do not like the main character Mabel as she just seems to moan and sulk when things don’t go her way in the beginning. But when the little girl begins to haunt the forests around their farm she is suddenly gripped as is the reader.
You can see that Eowyn Ivy knows the landscape and countryside she is writing about inside out as she loves to spend her life outside with her family: When she describes Mabel’s and Jack’s homestead and the surrounding fields and forest an image appears in your mind and you feel like being transported in another time and place.
Eowyn Ivy transforms a Russian fairy tale, Alaskan solitude and a couple drifting apart to a story that makes you think and wonder long after you have read it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will buy it!

Eine Geschichte, die einen verfolgt.
Ja, ich weiss, am Anfang hatte ich geschrieben, dass ich die Hauptperson Mabel nicht mag, weil sie nur zu maulen scheint, wenn die Dinge nicht nach ihrer Nase gehen. Aber als das kleine Maedchen im Wald um ihre Farm zu erscheinen beginnt, ist Mabel aber auch der Leser mitgerissen.
Man kann sehen, dass Eowyn Ivy die Landschaft und Gegend, ueber die sie schreibt, in und auswendig kennt, da sie und ihre Familie draussen zu leben liebt: Wenn sie Mabel’s and Jack’s Gehoeft und die umgebenden Felder und den Wald beschreibt, entsteht ein Bild im Kopf des Lesers und man fuehlt sich in eine andere Zeit und Gegend versetzt.
Eowyn Ivy transformiert ein russisches Maerchen, die Einsamkeit Alaska’s und ein Ehepaar, das sich auseinanderlebt in eine Geschichte, die einen noch lange zum nachdenken und wundern bringt, nachdem man das Buch zuende gelesen hat.
Ich habe es sehr genossen und werde es mir kaufen!
