Yesterday gave me an idea/Gestern gab mir eine Idee

I wrote about my latest most favourite hobby yesterday. But Stumble upon is not the only great page on the net so I will introduce you to a few more. Maybe you know them – maybe you don’t.

Today it shall be Bookcrossing.com!
It’s idea started about 10 years ago when some people thought it funny to keep their books in their bookshelves while they would never read them again. It is a shame to leave them there without any task so they set up a homepage, gave their books a number and left them somewhere “in the wild” as they call it. Aka in a corner of the bus station or on the bench of a cafe. Who ever finds it will find a message in the beginning of the book that it is for him or her to read and then to be released into the wild again. On the homepage you find diary entries of what has happened to the book. Of course only if the finder is willing to take part in the bookcrossing community.
I love that idea even though I never actually found a book. I released one though in the little northern German town of Rheine but never heard of it ever again. Such a shame!

Ich habe gestern ueber mein juengstes liebstes Hobby geschrieben. Aber Stumble upon ist nicht die einzige grossartige Seite im Netz und so werde ich Euch/Ihnen noch ein paar mehr vorstellen. Heute soll es dann  Bookcrossing.com sein.

Seine Idee entstand vor ungefaehr 10 Jahren als einige Leute es komisch fanden, dass Ihre Buecher, die sie nie wieder lesen wuerden einfach so ohne Aufgabe im Buecherregal rumstand. Und so erstellten sie eine homepage, gaben ihren Buechern eine Nummer und entliesen sie “ins Wilde” wie sie das nennen. Also zum Beispiel in einer Ecke an der Bushaltestelle oder auf einer Bank im Cafe. Wer auch immer es findet, findet eine Nachricht am Anfang des Buches, dass es Ihnen frei steht, es zu lesen und dann wieder in die Freiheit zu entlassen. Auf der Homepage findest Du Eintraege, was mit dem Buch so passiert aber das natuerlich nur, wenn der/die FinderIn an der Bookcrossing Community teilnimmt.

Ich liebe diese Idee obwohl ich noch nie ein Buch gefunden habe. Ich habe jedoch mal eines freigelassen in der kleinen norddeutschen Stadt Rheine. Habe aber nie wieder etwas davon gehoert. So ein Jammer!

Stumble upon

Well it is late and I am not writing a lot today but I feel the urge to write something.
So I remember one of my most favourite hobbies lately: Stumble upon!
The principle is simple: You sign up for a profile. You tick in a list of interests, what you like. You click on the stumble button and it leads you to sites you would never have found without stumble upon according to your interests. I love it!
You can also add sites that are not yet on the stumble upon list and give a description. It is ingenious as the whole thing grows and grows. If you are a curious person – just try it!

Tja es ist spaet und ich werde heute nicht viel schreiben aber ich fuehle den Drang, wenigstens etwas zu schreiben.

So habe ich mich an mein liebstes Hobby in letzter Zeit erinnert:  Stumble upon!

Das Prinzip ist simpel: Du meldest Dich fuer ein Profil an. Du tickst deine Interessen aus der Stumble upon-Liste. Du clickst den Stumble-Knopf und wirst auf Seiten gefuehrt, die Du ohne sie niemals gefunden haettest. Ich liebe es!

Du kannst auch Seiten zu der Stumble upon liste hinzufuegen und eine Beschreibung eingeben. Es ist genial, denn das Ganze waechst und waechst.
