Teenagers in Great Britain have had a very negative publicity lately. There is a lot of anger all over the country and the media seems to jump on it like hungry lions on a piece of meat. While I was watching all that happened I thought besides “Oh those criminals. They destroy lives and what for?” also ” They only show the negative examples! But there are many who helped cleaning up afterwards and many who do positive things in society day in day out. Where is they’re publicity?”
Yesterday I read in Jens Bertrams Blog “Mein Wa(h)renhaus” that he starts to have one part of it being of positive news to encourage people. Well it lead me to have a look at the good examples of British teenagers and give them a voice today. But alas it is difficult to find any examples online that I could use.

This is what Charlie from Bristol posted on a BBC website:
“Watch out! – I am from the evil and hated generation. Believe it or not, not every single teenager around my age goes around beating up people and smashing up cars. Can you seriously claim that today’s youth are that much worse than the mods and rockers of the former generation? My generation never gets a positive thing said about them – GCSEs for example – we do better than the past generation and the courses must be getting easier – obviously. Is it really any wonder then certain youths rebel?”
The article shows that Great Britain has the lowest rate of child crime in the whole of Europe and asks if youngsters deliberately are misunderstood by politicians to use them for their goals.
I was a teenager in the 80′s and the media said about us that we are destructive, do not read any more but only watch television and do not want to earn our living. Well loads of us fight for keeping libraries and books nowadays, have good jobs as long as there are some to have and often make a living with two or more jobs as that is the only way to survive.
What does this say about our society? Prejudices are spread to get dodgy laws taking away human rights accepted, the powerful not listening and changing anything for those they were voted by and consumerism proclaimed as the only important thing. And we wonder that there is anger that erupts?

Teenagers in Grossbritannien haben in letzter Zeit sehr viel schlechte Publicity bekommen. Da gibt es sehr viel Wut ueberall im Lande und die Medien scheinen darauf anzuspringen, wie hungrige Loewen auf ein Stueck Fleisch. Als ich mir im Fernsehen die Pluenderungen in London und anderswo angesehen habe dachte ich neben “Oh diese Kriminellen. Die zerstoeren ganze Leben und das wofuer?” auch “Sie zeigen nur die negativen Beispiele. Da gibt es jede Menge, die nachher geholfen haben aufzuraeumen und die gute Dinge jeden Tag tun. Wo ist deren Publicity?”
Dann habe ich gestern Jens Bertrams Blog “Mein Wa(h)renhaus” gelesen, dass er einen Teil seines Blog fuer positive Nachrichten bereit halten will, um Menschen zu ermuntern. Das hat mich dazu gefuehrt, mal einen Blick auf die guten Beispiele britischer Jugendlicher zu werfen. Aber siehe da es ist schwierig passende online zu finden. Dies hat Charlie aus Bristol auf einer BBC Webseite geschrieben:
“Passt auf! – Ich bin einer von der boesen und gehassten Generation. Ob Ihr es glaubt oder nicht nicht jeder Jugendliche meines Alters rennt rum und pruegelt Leute nieder oder zerstoert Autos. Koennt Ihr wirklich sagen, dass die heutige Jugend so viel schlechter ist als die Mods und rockers frueher Generationen? Ueber meine Generation wird nie etwas gutes gesagt – nehmt die GCSE’s (Englische Examen, die dem deutschen Realschulabschluss aehnlich sind) zum Beispiel. Wir bestehen sie besser als fruehere GEnerationen aber das liegt natuerlich daran, dass sie leichter geworden sind. Ist es da wirklich ein Wunder, dass bestimmte Jugendliche anfangen zu rebellieren?”
Der Artikel zeigt, dass Grossbritannien die niedrigste Rate von Jugendstraftaten in ganz Europa hat und fragt ob Jugendliche bewusst von Politikern missverstanden werden, um sie fuer Ihre Ziele zu benutzen.
Ich war in den 80′igern Teenager und ueber uns wurde gesagt, dass wir destruktiv sind, keine Buecher mehr lesen sondern nur vor dem Fernseher rumlungern und nicht arbeiten wollen. Tja heute kaempfen viele von uns darum, die Buechereien und Buecher ueberhaupt zu behalten, haben gute Berufe sofern es da welche gibt, die man haben kann oder haben zwei oder mehr Stellen, nur um zu ueberleben.
Was sagt das ueber unsere Gesellschaft? Vorurteile werden verbreitet, um fragwuerdige Gesetze durchzubringen, die Menschenrechte einschraenken und die Maechtigen hoeren nicht auf die, die sie gewaehlt haben geschweige denn aendern irgendetwas fuer sie. Und da wundern wir uns, dass Wut explodiert?
